Phil trained as a dancer with Joanna Priest in Adelaide and completed a Certificate in Performance (Dance) at the Centre for the Performing Arts. He danced with the West Australian Ballet Company, Outlet Dance Company and the Australian Dance Theatre, performing in works by many of Australia's leading choreographers.

Phil has a Bachelor of Arts from Flinders University and a Master of Business (Arts & Cultural Management) from the University of South Australia. Phil has worked as Administrator for Jumbuck Theatre - an Indigenous youth theatre company and Carouselle Theatre - a multicultural puppetry and visual theatre company. Prior to joining Ausdance, Phil was the Finance & Administration Manager of the Media Resource Centre and Mercury Cinema.
